Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Line muffin tins with paper cups or lightly spray tins with non-stick cooking spray.
In a medium mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, egg, sugar, and salt until light and fluffy.
Stir in chocolate chips and set aside.
Prepare cake mix according to directions.
Fill muffin tins 1/3 full with batter and top with a dollop of the cream cheese filling.
Bake in preheated oven for 25 - 30 minutes.
Let cool.
Ice edges of cupcake with chocolate frosting leaving a hole in the middle. Place a dollop of cherry pie filling in the center of each cupcake.
