Bring a large pot of water to boil.
Peel and quarter potatoes.
Boil until soft, (pierce with a fork to check) about 25 minutes.
Drain and place in a large bowl.
Add butter, cream cheese, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mash with a potato masher. Add milk* slowly while mashing. They can get too runny easily.
*You can use half and half or whipping cream instead of milk for a creamier texture.
