Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix flour and sugar and set aside. Bring to a rapid boil the margarine, shortening, water and cocoa. Pour over flour mixture and mix. Combine buttermilk**, soda, eggs, and vanilla. Add to other mixture and mix thoroughly. Pour into a greased and floured 9x13 pan or a jellyroll pan. Bake 30 – 35 minutes. When cake has 10 minutes left to bake, start making frosting. In a saucepan, add margarine, cocoa, milk, and vanilla. Bring to a boil. Add powdered sugar and mix well. Add nuts if desired. When cake is removed from the oven, pour icing over cake and spread. Serve hot or cooled, it’s delicious! Top with ice cream and hot fudge to make it even better! **If you don’t have buttermilk, just add a tsp of white vinegar to regular milk and let it set for a minute.
