In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and add broken ramen noodles. Toss and stir until golden. Remove from heat and let cool.
In a jar with a tight fitting lid, combine the sugar, oil, vinegar, soy sauce, salt and pepper. Shake well. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
In a large bowl, toss broccoli, romaine, onions, walnuts and ramen noodles.
Toss with dressing before serving.
